Biography  
 

Levy Daugherty, became a native to Norfolk Virginia in the spring of 1946. He was born with a severe Dyslexia. A learning disability most would view as a lifelong handicap. He did not learn to read until the age of 34.

However, due to his unquenchable thirst for literacy and desire to help others, Levy felt immensely determined to reach out and help those who others had given up on and likewise faced similar struggles.

While enrolled in VCU in Washington DC in 1983, Levy wrote his first paper to the editor of the Richmond Newspaper, titled “Get Out Of Racism And Get In The Race For Excellence”.. Inspired by Peter Green, Levy published “The Layman's News”. A newsletter in which he translated the daily news into "Barbershop Language". In 2002 he helped originate “The American Clergy Magazine”. In 1989 Levy received his Honorary Doctorate for his outstanding work in their international, interface and intercultural, programs. (The International, Interdenominational Conference for Clergy); And soon after became Senior Editor.

In 2007 he launched The KingMaker Magazine and co-founded of the KingMaker Foundation, and created a program that was launched at Howard University, and the University of District of Columbia; “Civil Rights to Civil Duties in the Pursuit of Freedom, Family, Peace and Happiness”, where 12 of the top civil rights leaders passed the torch from civil rights to civil duties to the next generation one of the 12 was the late Dorothy Height, and The Council Of Elders was formed. Levy received the position of Chairman in 2009 Of the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Life Institute, co-founded by the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the late Dr. Milton Ananias Reid.

He developed a project called “The Student Generation Piece Journalism Club”. This is a high school dropout prevention program which teaches children and young adults how to read, write and design their own magazine called “History Of Us”( literacy through Germany and principal character building).

Levy's greatest achievement is his family. He and his wife Claire share and are the proud parents of 12 children, 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and one on the way.

With his unwavering dedication and commitment, Levy’s determination will stop at nothing to help put a stop to the devastating high school dropout rate among black males in America.
